Avocado Oil is a deeply nourishing emollient derived from the pulp of the Persea gratissima fruit, rich in bioactive lipids and micronutrients that support skin repair, hydration, and overall barrier function. Loved for its deep moisturizing properties and silky texture, this oil is perfect for DIY skincare and bath & body formulations. Its unique fatty acid profile, combined with antioxidant compounds, makes it highly suitable for dry, mature, or sensitive skin formulations.

Lipid Composition and Barrier Support

Avocado Oil contains approximately:

Oleic acid (C18:1): 55–70% – A monounsaturated fatty acid known for enhancing skin permeability and softening the stratum corneum.

Palmitic acid (C16:0): 10–20% – A saturated fatty acid naturally present in skin lipids, offering occlusive and protective effects.

Linoleic acid (C18:2): 10–15% – An essential fatty acid critical for reducing trans epidermal water loss (TEWL).

Together, these fatty acids help replenish the lipid matrix of the skin barrier, improving hydration in compromised skin.

Vitamins and Antioxidants

Naturally present tocopherols (Vitamin E) and carotenoids such as lutein and beta-carotene provide antioxidant protection. These compounds neutralize free radicals and contribute to the photoprotective and anti-aging properties of the oil, reducing oxidative stress from UV exposure.

Studies have also noted that unsaponifiables (1–2%), including squalene and phytosterols, play a role in reducing skin roughness over time.
