Phenonip

Phenonip is a broad-spectrum, oil-soluble preservative commonly used in lotions, creams, scrubs, and other personal-care products. It protects formulas from bacteria, yeast, and mold, making it suitable for most rinse-off and leave-on products.

Composition

Phenonip is a blend of:

• Phenoxyethanol
• Methylparaben
• Ethylparaben
• Butylparaben
• Propylparaben
• Isobutylparaben

This combination gives it strong and reliable antimicrobial performance.

Usage Rate

• Typically 0.5–1.0% of total formulation.
• Effective in formulations with pH below 8 (best between 4–7.5).
• Compatible with most emulsions, oils, and non-ionic surfactants.

Solubility

• Oil-soluble, meaning it should be added during the oil phase or at the end of making your emulsion (when the oil phase is present and temperature is around 50 °C or below).

Temperature Considerations

• Avoid heating above 80 °C (176 °F) for extended periods, as excessive heat can reduce efficacy.
• Ideal to add during cool-down once the mixture is lukewarm to warm but still fluid.
